Logo Contest Guidelines

 

Purpose:

Create a bold new image for a line of merchandise for the HCDP (i.e. shirts, hats, coffee mugs).

Who can participate?

Creative Democrats of all ages who wish to design a logo that will move Democrats into the future with a bold new image.

Colors:

 

Two color graphic, to be printed on white.  Blue should be one of the colors (navy blue, cobalt blue, medium blue preferred). 

Theme:

 

Theme should be bold and positive with a clear Democratic message (ex: “Turn Texas Blue”).  In order to broaden the merchandise’s appeal, do not make this logo county specific.  Referencing the HCDP specifically is not necessary.

Deliverables (2):

 

Contestants should submit two versions of the same identical logo:  1) one square-shaped logo, suitable for shirts, coffee cups, baseball caps, etc.; and one bumper sticker design, either one rectangular-shaped logo or one oval-shaped logo.

Sizes:

 

The first logo should be visually clear and appealing at a three-inch-wide scale (is it clear for use on coffee cups?).  The rectangular logo should be visually clear and appealing at 11.5 inches wide by 3 inches high, and the oval logo should be visually clear and appealing at 6 inches wide by 4 inches high.

The following electronic file types may be submitted:  jpeg, gif, bitmap, eps.

Be sure to include your name, mailing address, email, and phone number(s) in your email.  Include a brief summary of your Democratic experience (precinct chair, club affiliation(s), etc.). 

Prize:

One ticket to the HCDP’s annual Johnson-Rayburn dinner/fundraiser (valued at $125).

Judging, Phase I:

A panel will choose the three top logos.

 

Logos will be judged by the following criteria:

 

1 = Poor   5 = Excellent

  • Clarity and Strength of Message

  • Optimism and Empowerment

1          2          3          4          5

  • Visual Appeal

1          2          3          4          5

Judging, Phase II:

Top three logos will be posted on www.hcdp.org.

All current sustaining members will receive an email ballot with a link to the logo contest page.  Please contact Leif Hatlen, HCDP Finance Officer, at finance@hcdp.org, 713-802-0085, to verify or renew your sustaining membership.  Members who are current as of May 25th may vote.

Timeline:

  • FRI, May 5:  logo contest launched
  • TUE, May 23:  Entries are due by midnight, as time stamped in mrt@hcdp.org
  • FRI, May 26-TH June 1:  online voting
  • FRI, June 2:  Results announced in Turn Texas Blue email and website.
